FUTURE EVENTS


Your committee is arranging an attractive series of events for the forthcoming months. Some are in the early stages of preparation and, as ever, we are very dependent on the availability of speakers and venues amongst other factors. At times some events have to be changed or postponed due to circumstances beyond our control.

As details become available they will be published on this site, in the Newsletter or by direct emailing through Committee contacts.

Tuesday 9th September – International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) - Midhurst

A presentation on the work of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). Many will know of Eurorap which is intended to achieve European standards of "safe" road designs. iRAP is an extension of this programme. Dr. Suzanne Charman, International Programme Manager is looking forward to addressing highway engineering professionals and responding to their comments. This event is a "must" for anyone involved in road safety. More information and booking details are available for downloading here.

Friday 28th November 2008 - Wine & Wisdom Quiz Night

It's that time of year again! Ripley Village Hall Booked. We can accommodate 15 teams of 8 members. All are welcome – vast knowledge source not required, just be prepared to join in and contribute to a worthy local charity that benefits children. Further information to follow.

Thursday 4th December 2008 – Motorways & Trunk Roads Network Management & Control Systems

A joint presentation by the Highways Agency and their partners, SERCO as operators of the National Traffic Control Centre on network management so as to achieve the Highways Agency’s objectives of "Safe Roads, Reliable Journeys, Informed Travellers" Further information will appear soon.

The Committee is planning further events including

Safety Auditing and the Implications of the Disability Discrimination Act – Visit to a Materials Testing Laboratory – Road collisions –Forensic evidence gathering - Active Traffic Management (use of Motorway Hard Shoulders soon to be extended to the SE) – Passive Safety Signing – Other site visits are also on the Agenda.

Regular Features for 2009

Annual Seminar, Winchester, May; Annual General Meeting, Venue in the South, June; Wine & Wisdom evening, November.

As always, members are very welcome to these events and, in most cases, non-member guests can also attend. Normally free of charge with light refreshments, they all qualify for Continued Professional Development (CPD) certification. Support your Institute and Branch Committee by attending these events which are designed to improve your overall knowledge of the highways industry, regardless of your current professional role.
